Tracheal Shave; "Adams Apple" Reduction in MtF patients
Overview
Dr. Christine McGinn, D.O. reduces the cartilage of the "Adams Apple" to make the shape more feminine. This is a common procedure for Male-to-Female transgender patients and can be easily done at the same time as a vaginoplasty procedure. Dr. McGinn uses an incision that will be hidden under the chin. This is an outpatient procedure, however you are not permitted to drive or be alone for 24 hours following surgery.
Requirements
Papillon Center requires all patients to not smoke for one month prior to any surgery. A stand-alone tracheal shave requires the stitches to be removed five days after surgery. Dr. McGinn recommends patients to remain in the Doylestown area for 48 hours following surgery. Out of town patients will need to visit their family doctor to have the stitches removed exactly five days after surgery.Initial Consultation
A consultation is required to setup a surgery date. It is preferable that it takes place in person in our office, however Papillon Center will make accommodations for individuals on a case by case basis. The procedure is outlined, including risks, complications, and possible outcomes. Dr. McGinn will go over past surgical results, including pictures, as well as expectations and limitations. It is important to be honest and ask questions about subjects that you do not understand.
